Script for The Introduction

Malaysia, the 66th largest country by total land area was once under the rule of the British Empire during the 18th century. Then on 31st August of the year 1957, Malaysia gained independence. Malaysia had one of the best economic records in Asia, with GDP growing an average 6.5 percent anually from the year 1957 to 2005. In the year 2010, the GDP grows 7.2% outperforming the actual expectation of 6% and became the 3rd largest economy in ASEAN and 29th largest in the world. Malaysia is a rapidly developing country in Asia Besides that, Malaysia is also recognized globally as a leading tourism destination and was listed as one of the top ten countries for "Best in Travel 2010" and one of the "Best Value Destination for 2010" by the Lonely Planet. With such success and growth in economy and tourism and many others, one would not expect that Malaysia had this problem.

Teaser Soundtrack

I narrowed it down to 2 different types of song. The selection of the song would affect the outcome of the video and also the contents of the video.

The soundtrack - An Itch by Trent Raznor and Atticus Ross would give the impression of a dark or emotional or a mounting tension environment. This soundtrack was from the movie, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. I find it fitting to the teaser if I want to show Kuala Lumpur as a very dark or mounting tension environment.

The soundtrack - Pizzicato from the ballet "Sylvia" by Leo Delibes is another soundtrack I selected. I find this soundtrack suitable if I wanted to give a more positive side to the teaser. The song does give a mischievous feel if put together with the right contents. It could also show that Kuala Lumpur has a good and bad side. ( I can't find a link with just the song. So, I had to use this video to show the song I might be using)

After some thinking, I decided to use Pizzicato as my sountrack. I did not want to show Kuala Lumpur as a very negative place. I wanted to show that Kuala Lumpur is a very good place but it has it's downside that can be fixed. So I chose Pizzicato.

Shooting

For this shooting, it took about 4 days to travel around around certain places of KL. I went to Gombak, Wangsa Maju, Imbi, Bukit Bintang and Jalan Genting Klang The shooting was a lot easier after having the help of a friend from UTAR. There will be 2 more shootings to go. The next shooting will take place in Johor Bahru around Johor Jaya and Jalan Wong Ah Fook. Then the last shooting will take place in Chow Kit and Petaling Street.

Storyboard

This is a storyboard for my documentary.

1.During the beginning or introduction of the documentary, I will show some landmarks of Malaysia and narrate about Malaysia and it's success. The introduction of the documentary will last about 1 minute.

2. After the introduction, it will jump instantly to a scene with many garbage. The scene will keep changing to different places to show how dirty the place is.

3. After that, some videos of people littering which I captured will be shown. I will be "stalking" people whom I see drinking, smoking or are holding any unwanted items in their hands that they will throw away. I want to find out, of all the people I "stalk", how many of them actually dispose their garbage appropriately.

4.Then, I will show interviews that I had with cleaning service personnels such as Alam Flora workers. In the interviews, I will ask about their work and whether they think it is difficult to clean the streets of Malaysia.

5.Then, I will plant a camera at different places that has the "Do Not Litter" or similar sign to see how many people are ignorant of the sign that was put up.

6. At the end of the documentary, I will make a conclusion from the results I get.
